Story
The Beginnings: A Cowboy
Artist’s Dream
1930’s
In the early 1930’s, renowned cowboy artist Lon Megargee envisioned a tranquil desert retreat where he could both live and create. He built a modest adobe hacienda in what is now Paradise Valley, Arizona. Originally called “Casa Hermosa” or “Beautiful House,” Megargee’s home served as his personal studio and retreat. The property embodied the rustic charm of the Old West, with hand-painted murals, adobe walls, and a welcoming spirit that echoed the rugged beauty of the surrounding desert landscape.
A Retreat for Artists and the
Hollywood Elite
1940-1950
As word of Lon Megargee’s hideaway spread, Casa Hermosa became a gathering place for artists, intellectuals, and even Hollywood celebrities seeking a quiet escape. Guests were drawn to the hacienda for its intimate, charming atmosphere, as well as its proximity to the blossoming town of Phoenix. By the 1940s, Casa Hermosa transitioned into a guest ranch, allowing visitors to experience the authentic Southwestern lifestyle that Megargee had created.
Transformation into
The Hermosa Inn
1950’s-1960’s
After Lon Megargee sold the property, it changed ownership several times throughout the 1950s and 1960s, each new owner preserving its historic integrity while making thoughtful upgrades. During this period, the property became officially known as The Hermosa Inn, cementing its reputation as an intimate hideaway with deep artistic and historical roots. Nestled amidst the stunning backdrop of Camelback Mountain and the lush desert landscape, The Hermosa Inn retained its rustic charm while evolving into a luxurious boutique destination.
