Our History

Sedona’s Origins

Early 1900’s

The story of Sedona began millions of years ago when natural forces shaped the striking red rocks that now define the landscape. For centuries, Native American tribes, such as the Sinagua, farmed this fertile land and traded with other tribes. By the early 1900s, settlers like T.C.Schnebly arrived, and the town of Sedona was named after his wife. This marked the beginning of the area’s modern history.

From Hollywood to Golf

1965

Before becoming a golf resort, Sedona’s iconic beauty attracted Hollywood legends. In 1965, the western comedy Rounders, starring Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda, was filmed on the very land where the golf course now sits. This connection to the entertainment world further solidified Sedona’s allure as a destination of natural and cultural importance.

The Resort’s Opening

1987

Sedona Golf Resort officially opened its doors in 1987. Designed by renowned golf course architect, Gary Panks, who designed the 6,646-yard course to respect the natural formations, integrating seamlessly with the rugged beauty of the red rock terrain.

A New Chapter

2021 – Present

In 2021, the Allred family acquired Sedona Golf Resort, adding it to their portfolio of Arizona properties. This acquisition placed the resort alongside iconic destinations like The Hermosa Inn, Tubac Golf Resort & Spa, and Rancho Mañana Golf Club – now a part of The Arizona Hideaway Collection. Each property reflects the Allred family’s commitment to preserving Arizona’s history, and creating unforgettable, adventures for guests.
